That's basically been my experience too. I do a lot of dsl setups or
changeovers from sympatico/aibn and have not yet been able to get the
downtime to less than 4 days.

The providers always say that Bell needs to provision the line for digital
for their system rather than just switch from one provider to another, so
this suggests to me that the end point for the ppp is the gateway at the
provider.

As for having more than one provider on the same line, never heard of it,
although I have had 2 lines sharing the same account info when moving.
