I'll start by apologizing for making a suggestion based on almost zero
knowledge ...

Gerbera claims to have "optional" transcoding support.  Perhaps if that is
turned on, the problem is that Gerbera is trying to transcode your mp4
files and something about their format is giving it indigestion (ie. the
transcoder can't decode some of the mp4s which leads to failure).

See if transcoding is turned on (it's usually a good thing), turn it off
and try again?
