Belated thanks for the link. I had thought after the Snowden video which
showed how to disable the mic on a common cell phone, there might be some
hope for project Ara. Alas not, it's been cancelled.

Yes, there's an app in F-Droid that claims to detect such attacks. I
haven't used it.
