[GTALUG] Ubuntu 4.4.0-43 kernel update issue

What screen resolutions are available to switch to?  Perhaps the
driver for your video card isn't properly installed or working?

You could try going to Settings > Software & Updates > Additional
Drivers and checking if there's a driver for your video card that's
not currently being used.
