sharing is caring: you should consider sending that info in the welcome
message, so new (welcome and unwelcome peeps) can feel warm and fuzzy

the trade off to doing non std spam things is the odd spam, would that
be so bad though? I lurked for a while before posting, you guys and
gals seem like a very diverse, intelligent and cool community. 

I am still not sure if I will be a fit (I am very diverse / my degree
of diversity may exceed the permit limits), but was planning on having
fun in the discovery :)
