If that is just a modem, as it claims, why does it list this feature:
 Built-in firewall protects against Internet attacks

Does it do slightly-deep packet inspection, peering inside the PPPoE
packets?

There is a local web server to manage the thing.  Perhaps that's why
it has a firewall.
