Recommend a Linux release for very, very non-specialist

I use Linux mint debian edition, and I would just caution that it is super
easy and good for beginners, BUT
since it is pure debian, its also just as powerful, if not more powerful :)
then any other linux out there as well.
To me I want to be able to do anything with my Linux distro, yet not how to
waste time setting up the "typical" stuff (multimedia, etc), and Linux Mint
Debian Edition just gives me the best of all worlds, i.e. easiest to use,
and most powerful. So I am just cautioning that "Easy to use" in this case
doesn't mean its lacking in any way in the "power" department.
