In principle, rotational symmetry is an enhancement that Apple added when
they introduced their "Lightning" cable.

Unfortunately, I hear reports that the Lightning connectors are otherwise
rather fragile, so they need to get replaced pretty frequently :-(.

I'd be a bit worried that USB could head down the same road.
