Does the Pi DVI output both? This gets to the core of the cheap adapter's
suitability to task.

In any case, I found something else that explicitly references converting
the Pi's output to VGA:

At $13.50 that's not as big a gap from the $20 Newark piece as the
analog-only gear, but that gap narrows when you consider that:
- Shipping is included
- Canada Post does not assess or collect HST on packages of less than $20
declared value

So it works out to about half-price if you have the patience to wait the
3-4 weeks it takes for airmail from China.
