Consider it an X problem, and see if the X server is getting starved of
anything and investigate what it's doing.

Start watching all the operations (there's a client who's name I forget
for that) and then move the mouse.
By eye, you will be able to see if it's lagging from the log. Top -d 1
will tell you what part's running, or not running (;-))

My acer aspire had no trouble with 20 firefox tabs, and it's a netbook...
