Just a note about links shortened with bit.ly: if you add a "+" (no
quotes) to the shortened URL, you'll get an information page with
preview & stats.

By way of example, my most recent is about how the cola wars started
back in the 1700's: <https://bitly.com/WaoMis+>

One can confirm the link's target (the information page in this case)
without following the shortened link by visiting my profile at
<https://bitly.com/u/psema4>. The above mentioned article is currently
the first listed bitmark.
