I've never had SMART telling me a disk had problem, but the disks died
or were dying anyways.  I have same situtation with Hitachi 3TB.  Heat
seems to be the biggest factor.  So, I've relegated it to backup (part
of multiple backups, of course), where it's on for short duration.
