I have a Lenovo W510, which is a delightful machine and everything Just
Works on it (except perhaps the modem which I've never had occasion to
try out). The keyboard is the old-style IBM keyboard, which is terrific,
not the recent "chiclet" style that seems to have become the Lenovo norm.
I would not buy that keyboard, so you need to be very careful about just
what is available and what you're willing to put up with.

Otherwise, I run gentoo on the W510, and as noted it all runs without any
sort of hiccup -- it just works. Lots of RAM, quad-core with multithreading
gives you eight virtual processors, good screen resolution... If you can
find one with the right keyboard, buy it; you won't be disappointed.
