I have been using DokuWiki on my own website. It is easy to set up and does
not require use of a database. I chose it because of its simple set up (it
didn't require a database), and it was supposed to be better if you wanted
to use it for documentation (which is one of the things I wanted to use it for).

There are lots of plugins available for DokuWiki to add extra features. One
plugin will add blog type features while another will let you export pages
to OpenOffice. An addon for LibreOffice will let you save files in DokuWiki
format.

For dealing with pictures I use Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/). You
can use Gallery to maintain the pictures and include links to the images in
the Gallery in the wiki pages.
