arch in a vm?

Hi folks,

After years with Ubuntu, I'm getting the itch to try something else.  Arch
looks like fun but I don't have a spare machine right now to experiment on,
so I would like to install it in a virtual machine on one of my ubuntu
boxes (either my 12.10 laptop or the 12.04 desktop that runs our media
centre and family computer).

I haven't worked with VM's for a long while -- any suggestions as to which
solution is easiest & most practical?
