It will depend on what you need/want to compile, the build environment, and 
what other packages may be required as dependencies. I cross compiled 
ghostscript for ARM in order to be able to print to a printer.

No, not as long as you have the RAM/SD Card/HD space to hold all the 
compiler tools and link libraries.
