Well on Debian unstable I use:
flashplugin-nonfree 1:2.8.3

It works fine (well as fine as dobe software can be expected to work).
It's even 64bit these days.

Once installed you can then run 'update-flashplugin-nonfree  --install'
whenever you want to get the latest version.
