In order to get WiFi to work in openSUSE 12.1, I had to do the following:
Install rfkill
Edit /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0 to change "WIRELESS_POWER="no"
to "none"
At root command prompt:
rfmod -f acer_wmi
rfkill unblock all
echo "blacklist acer_wmi" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
