can't restore Thunderbird from backup

I don't even know if anyone saw this post or not. I got no response. 
Anyway, I thought I'd post my fix. Thunderbird was defaulting to IMAP 
protocol. So, the ISP server kept overwriting my mail folders. I deleted 
.thunderbird, started up Thunderbird again, this time choosing POP 
protocol. I pointed TB to my old mail folder and all my old emails are 
showing up now!
