Ahhh, you're not a diehard Jeopardy fan! The rules are that you make your
Final Jeopardy wager after you know the category, but before you hear the
"answer" to which you respond with a "question".
Note that Watson came up with an incorrect answer on Monday that similarly
ignored the information included in the category -- I think it was a single
year for a category that needed a response by a decade.
I've been very impressed by Watson's ability to parse natural-language
queries of almost all sorts (puns, jokes, riddles, etc.). That's a large
step towards passing the Turing Test.
