Embedded videos

I'd love to know what causes embedded videos videos to crash Firefox and crash 
the video plug-in nspluginviewer in Konqueror.

Example sites: Right now, http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/

It does not seem to be Youtube videos that are causing this.  I notice it with 
CNN videos - I've had CNN's website crash Firefox and crash the video plug-in 
in Konqueror.

They don't crash Konqueror itself, just the plug-in.

Anyone else experiencing this?
