Sound problems in Squeeze

Here is an update on this should it plague anyone else.  By configuring
.asound to use Pules Citirx does not grab the Alsa device file.

pcm.pulse {
     type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
     type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
     type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
     type pulse
} 

I have not had any sound problems since then.
