Well the graphical install probably uses a very minimal video mode
(likely 640x480x16 vga).

Other than by checking /var/log/Xorg.0.log there is not much to do to
figure out why the display doesn't like the output being generated.

Which video chip?  Which X driver?  Which video mode?
