vnc setup questions

guys i just got done with a vnc basic setup running, i installed x11vnc 
on my debina server and xvnc4viewer on my workstation.

do i need to worry about using ssl for vnc to avoid man in the middle 
exploits/snooping ? are there better faster viewers that you are happy with?
