Yes, but...

Any changes will get washed away any time you install or remove a
kernel (that process runs update-grub again) and should be blown away any
time you add or remove a kernel on another partition unless you switch
to chain loading (you need to run the update-grub manually).

So that will work but it is a hack and rather fragile.
