We run several virtual hosts using KVM without a display configured. One thing that might be handy is a virtual serial terminal setup in case the machine boots up and stops waiting for a manual fsck to be run. You may also be able to trigger a SYSRQ command in case the guest OS crashes from within a SOL session.

I'd like to setup a vm server to host a number of different vm's. This
server will be in a colo, I'd prefer to run everything headless.
VirtualBox can do this. KVM may be able to do it, but there are some
indications that it won't.
Looking for advice.
