That's fine, and you can certainly set things up that way.

It seems to me that the default Ubuntu setup is fairly reasonable - it
doesn't force a proliferation of authentication information ("I'm not
sure why *I* need a user account - what's this 'root' thing, and why
does it have to have another password?  Does the password need to be
the same?  Or different???")
