The OEM version for your machine often doesn't require a license key to
be entered.  It gets it from some part of the BIOS.

Your volume license media or other media would require one.  They can
certainly tell, and they would not have any difficulty making a case.
It is complicated and potentially expensive to work in the Windows world.
I am happy I don't.
