Earlier this month Canada's chief electoral officer gave the Pirate Party of
Canada party status, which means the burgeoning party can field candidates
in the next election, raise money and issue tax receipts.
The party, which advocates copyright and patent reform, net neutrality and
privacy among its key platform planks, first started in Sweden but now has
branches in the U.K., Australia and many other European countries.
