Well if the remote offers you an NFS mount, then it might work ok.
I don't think it can work at all if the protocol is rsync.
I use rsnapshot a lot, and it does a great job, but it is not a backup
tool, it is a way to efficiently store file changes for easy recovery
from screwups. It does not replace backups at all, but is a great
companion to a backup system.
