It's well known in the Smalltalk community that Ruby is really Smalltalk
with a different syntax, along with a re-introduction of files to store
dead code. However, it seems that these two factors are crucial for
programmers who've grown up with C-like function call syntax, and a file
edit/compile/execute mentality.

Another feature "lost" was a native windowing interface. The Smalltalk
GUI is what Steve Jobs saw when he visited Xerox PARC, then went off to
create Apple Computer. It's kind of sad that Java/Eclipse and Ruby/IRB
are re-inventing the wheel.
