At home, in Oakville, the machine with the keyboard issue is on a 1300VA
UPS. My laptop (the wireless one) is on a 700VA UPS. In Toronto, all
servers are on a huge APC UPS. Also, there are many, many other machines
on the same mains in Toronto and nothing else acted up. The Xen machine
and the network are in different racks and connected only by a couple
switches... Many other systems are closer.
A power event did cross my mind, but I don't think so. I'm guessing it
was just "one of those nights" and that was that.
