Well they offer both all the time :)  It seems to me that they aim them at 
quite different roles though.  A lot of IBMs larger and older customers 
use AIX for high end systems and will continue to do so for a very long 
time.  At the same time IBM has pushed Linux in different markets.  I 
think it makes a lot of sense for them as without Linux or an OS like it 
they would have needed to adapt AIX in those cases.
