I do it without the hell that is berberos.

I just configured sambe with security=domain and the password server IP.
Then I added the samba macine to the domain using:
net rpc join member -U administrator

It should prompt for the domain controller admin's password.

Assuming you set the domain/workgroup name correctly in the samba config,
it should join the domain.  After this, you can authenticate.

So pretty simple, and no need for kerberos to get involved.
