Per-User X Windows System Screen Resolution Configuration

GNOME stores per-user resolution information which is restored when the 
user logs in.  Just System->Preferences->Screen Resolution on recent 
versions.

This is basically a GUI version of what Lennart suggested, as GNOME 
calls xrandr at login time.
