virtual private server setup

Hi there!

A general question, I have been looking around at some hosting
services and even have an account with webhost.com. After using it a
bit, I can't help to wonder how these guys set up their servers.

Can anyone explain a bit about this setup please? What would it take
to have such a setup if one feel necessary?
