TrueType Fonts in Debian

I have an interesting problem - I am generally happy with the fonts I
see, but I need to install a TrueType font on a Debian testing machine,
and I can't seem to figure it out.

I put the TTF file in /usr/share/fonts/truetype, and I see it when I run
this:

fslsfonts -server unix/:7101

but not when I run this:

xlsfonts

I was following this page, but it is old, and perhaps not appropriate:

http://tldp.org/HOWTO/TT-Debian-3.html#ss3.2

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

William
