Maybe you didn't apply the setting, or it has an invalid configuration.

Note that multiple addresses no longer require alias interfaces on 2.6
kernels, just multiple IPs on one interface.

'ip addr' should show all the IPs on all your interfaces.  ifconfig is
kind of obsolete these days.
