MS office & Open office compatibility issue

This happens to me at school all the time, especially since my faculty 
emphasizes group work. One person will use Word, another Open Office, 
and another TextEdit or something else. The best option in that case is 
rtf as it is basic enough and has had enough people figuring it out over 
the years on multiple platforms that formatting isn't too much of a problem.

Get them to send rtf and send rtf back and that should eliminate most of 
the glitches and maintain a consistent degree of brokenness on both ends.
