ubuntu 7.10 install

This look serious: 

[!!] Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk. UNable to installl GRUB in 
(hd0). Executing 'grub-install (hd0)' failed. This is a fatal error. 


Where do I go from here? These drives (two identical WD 160 GB) are only a 
month old. Is this a dying/dead hard drive?
