Should Gallery2 be installed on the desktop or on the server where the 
photos reside (if these are not the same)?

Gthumb Image Viewer makes decent photo albums (nothing too fancy) without 
much effort. They allow you to view photos as a slide show, but don't 
seem to have an option for saving the slide show so that it can be 
stuck on the web, something I'm still looking for.
