locked out of home directory??

That's what I did, actually, which is why the RTFM was unexpected, I
guess.  I only mentioned the Apache thing because it's the only
application I've ever seen have a problem with home directories set to
700.

Oh well, I guess it was miscommunication.  Thanks for taking the time
to give me a verbose reply.
