OO 2.0 .odt is zip?

Okay, how come they've never announced themselves that way on any system 
I've ever had (until now)? In older versions they would default to 
saving as .sxw. In newer versions they've defaulted to saving as .odt. 
Both simply open as a document. On this one computer however they are 
zip files that don't want to just open as a document. In other words if 
they have always been zip files that has always been invisible to me - 
they have always just opened as a document.

Until now on this one computer...
