I would be willing to bet that the majority (if not all) of those
designers deal entirely in web and computer graphics, as opposed to
print graphics.

I'm not sure I would refer to it as polished. It depends on your usage
(as I alluded to a moment ago, it's great for RGB graphics, not so
much getting artwork produced for press).

Their marketing problem is not as important as their problem meeting
critical goals outlined in the roadmap. I have no doubt that if
TheGIMP could produce print-ready artwork, more designers would know
about it.

Yes: http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-blend.html

Hey, I'm in agreement here. Who knows why they rushed a 2.0 version
out the door without completing the new engine? People who were at
either of my NewTLUG or TLUG presentations (~5.5 years ago) featuring
TheGIMP might recall a brief roadmap discussion, where I mentioned 2.0
was expected to come out within a couple of years, was a big deal
because it was going from a monolithic code base to a modular one, and
(finally!) CMYK support would be added.

I like TheGIMP. But I can't use it as a Photoshop replacement.

Yet.

Cheers,

Steph
