When I got my (Rogers) cell phone I got an advert call the next day. I
called Rogers and told them, in polite but no uncertain terms, to NOT
call me with any advertisements. Haven't had a call since. Well, not
sooo true, the called after three months to remind me that the sign up
free call period was over and to see if I was happy with my plan, but
that was directly related to my account so it was fine.
As for general telemarketers, I've found the magic words;
"Please put me on your global do not call list".
Generally a call center will call for many clients. If you leave out the
word "global" they will put you on a 'do not call list' for that
customer only. If you /do/ say 'global', then they won't call you for
any client.
When my b/f and I moved in with his grandparents they were getting a few
telemarketing calls a day. I told them to say that, and now they almost
never get any.
This said, my advice is worth what you paid for it. :)
