In this case, it *is* an x86; it's an "AMD Geode," which is a low
power IA-32 chip.
According to this site: <http://www.docunext.com/> it chews only 9 watts.
The Docunext site sems interesting; it compares the DECtop with NSLU2 etc...
There are a number of sorts of relevant hardware, between:
- Embedded PPC, where I've not seen any potentially cheap ways to buy
small quantities
- StrongARM / XScale
- MIPS
- VIA Eden C7
- AMD Geode
In practice, most have mostly only been available at quite
extraordinarily high prices, generally where someone's trying to sell
that they're saving you some TCO even though you're paying a horrible
price for the product.
