how to point a domain to a host?

Hi Peter,
Much more fun to set up your own server. But you'll need to ensure it
has a static IP, or you're using a service like DynDNS to point a
domain name to your dynamic IP.

www.dyndns.org

To point a live .ca domain name to your dynamic IP address, you'll
have to pay for it, but it's like $12/year, IIRC. This is probably the
easiest thing to do.

If you have a static IP address, then the answer depends on who you
registered with. Some registrars will let you point a domain name
right at an IP address -- they can act as DNS servers. Others require
that you use a DNS service, where you have to supply two DNS servers
(the second is a backup) to point to your IP.

But if you're hosting on your own, DynDNS or something like it will be
your best bet. Especially if you're doing it for the first time and
it's not a high-traffic site.

Cheers,
Aaron.
