I'm trying to install a Debian kernel:
ettin:/boot# apt-get -V install kernel-image-2.6-686-smp
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
kernel-image-2.6-686-smp (2.6.18+5)
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 64 not upgraded.
Need to get 1972B of archives.
After unpacking 32.8kB of additional disk space will be used.
Get:1 http://debian.yorku.ca testing/main kernel-image-2.6-686-smp
1:2.6.18+5 [1972B]
Fetched 1972B in 0s (13.2kB/s)
Selecting previously deselected package kernel-image-2.6-686-smp.
(Reading database ... 81432 files and directories currently
installed.)
Unpacking kernel-image-2.6-686-smp (from
.../kernel-image-2.6-686-smp_1%3a2.6.18+5_i386.deb) ...
Setting up kernel-image-2.6-686-smp (2.6.18+5) ...
However, nothing seems to be installed. There are no new files in / or
/boot. Where is the kernel and the initrd?
