what to use instead of skype?

I suppose you could run Kopete and ekiga at the same time if you don't
get it all working in Ekiga.  I second Kopete's wonderful webcam
support.  It's been in since the initial KDE 3.5 release.  I don't
think it does audio though (except for some simple jingle support for
Google Talk).
