Can't install Gentoo linux on Dell Inspiron 530

  At the first boot prompt I tried several options...
gentoo root=/dev/hda1
gentoo root=/dev/sda1

  I also read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt and
tried various iterations of...
gentoo atkbd.foobar=n

  No luck at all.
